Bonsai classes

Beginners: 0-5 years Bonsai experience

Intensive Beginner Classes 2026

            

Class 1: Sunday January 11  

Introduction to bonsai:

            The 5 basic bonsai styles & their rules

  • Critique trees

 

Class 2: March 8

  • Bonsai soil

  • How to repot a bonsai tree ( example with a tree from the instructor)

  • Watering

  • Work on your bonsai tree

 

Class 3: June 21

  • Sketch your future tree

  • Wiring techniques

  • Work on your bonsai tree

 

Class 4: August 16 (AFTERNOON 1 PM to 4.30PM)

  • Design Principles

  • Pruning and Pinching

  • Work on your bonsai tree

 

Class 5: October 4

  • Pot Selection

  • Growing trees in the ground

  • Work on your bonsai tree

 

Class 6:  November 8

  • How to collect trees

  • Preparation of trees for winter storage  

  • Work on your bonsai trees

 

Classes will be held at the Raleigh Police Club starting at 8.30 AM and finish around 12 PM (unless otherwise noted)

The total cost of the 6 classes is $ 80/pp (non-refundable). To be paid no later than January 1, 2026.

TBS will provide wire and refreshments

The 2026 class teachers will be Gabrielle Monetti, Drew Leonard and Brent Tripp

Intermediate: >5 years of experience in bonsai

Intensive Intermediate Classes 2026

 

Class 1: February 22

The foundation for a bonsai: Nebari

  • What is a good Nebari

  • How to get a good Nebari

 

Class 2: April 12

  • Customized to Students needs

  • Work on bonsai trees

 

Class 3: July 26

  • Customized to Students needs

  • Work on bonsai trees

 

Class 4: August 16 

Customized to Students needs

  • Work on bonsai trees

 

Class 5: September 13

  • Customized to Students needs

  • Work on bonsai trees

 

Class 6: December 13

  • Visit a bonsai garden

  • Work on bonsai trees

 

Classes will be held at the Raleigh Police Club starting at 8.30 AM and finish around 12 PM

The total cost of the 6 classes is $ 100/pp (non-refundable). To be paid no later than January 1, 2026.

Maximum of students accepted is 10. (First come first served}
